"To have a sense of history one must consider oneself a piece of history."

Mr. Welch is a twin and was raised in Lee's Summit, MO where he attended Lee's Summit High School. During his younger years, Mr. Welch was fortunate enough to play competitive baseball, basketball, and football. He also ran track and cross- country and wrestled for 5 years. He received his BA in Biology Secondary Education from the University of Missouri Kansas City, while in addition earning his certification in Middle School Science and is dual state certified in Kansas and Missouri grades 6-12.

Mr. Welch has a passion for teaching and learning and feels no matter how rigorous or tough a concept can be, every student has the inner ability to understand and be successful. Education is the door to the future, and He is proud to witness his 8th grade science students' successes on a daily basis. Science is a passion for Mr. Welch and he loves to relate science to everyday life so that the students can see how a subject can affect them daily. What it really means when you watch the weather (why does it change so much?); what does longitude and the tilt of the Earth give us (different climates and seasons); what is some evidence of continental drift (islands and hot spots). If students' eyes are opened up to idea that the stuff they learn in school is a part of their everyday life, they will flourish with knowledge.

Outside of school Mr. Welch enjoys playing golf, reading, water sports, and spending time with family and friends. He is engaged and getting married in May, so when you see him in the hall, congratulate him!
